Historical Summary
In 1999 four dancers (Leo Castro, Miguel Strebel, Africa Navarro and Ramon Roig), gather to dance and exchange views. Shortly after an open call for dancers and movement artists one day a week is created and ends up becoming the first open Improvisation Dance Jam City. Kaspar König joined the group and formed SIAMB, Societat d’Investigació de les Arts Modernes Barcelona. Later also they add Marielle Morales and Conrado Parodi.
The dance was always the soul of the group although these meetings convened not only dancers but also artists in any field. The Contact-Improvisation would be the vehicular tool to combine, at those meetings, the language of dance with all the scenic elements, thus generating magical moments through improvisation. SIAMB born of that concern, channeling all that energy and focus increasingly towards the study of improvised dance, body language as well as artistic expression.

This trade pact was extended to all areas where siamb He created a new Jam, so we could keep the idea of free and open, very important at the time where all the dance in the city went on in closed areas and payment.

SIAMB & Contact-Improvisation
The Contact Improvisation was adopted by siamb spontaneously and served as a pattern for the development of all its activities. The values and principles that guided our dances also served to make our projects, trying not to fall in contradiction to the principles of CI. Most of our activities were happening spontaneously and often even no visual record of this. Discover, live dance in everything around us, playing as a synonym for sharing …
In 2001 we started to give the first regular contact-improvisation classes: Marielle Morales, Ramon Navarro Roig and Africa were the first local teachers who dared to teach in Contact-Improvisation themselves in the city.
